How to Measure for your Shades

• When measuring for your shades be sure to always use a metal tape measure.

• Decide if you want an outside mount or an inside mount. Inside mounts have a cleaner look. However, you may have a small gap of light on either side of the shade. Please Note: If you have any handles, locks, etc. you will need to do an outside mount. Outside mounts can be a little easier to measure and install if your window is not completely square. Outside mounts will overlap the window and cover some of the frame, so usually you won't have much of a light gap. (See diagram below)

• Always measure to the nearest 1/8 inch. Be sure to always give exact measurements.

• You will also need to give us the length of the shade in addition to the width. Be sure to specify which measurement is the width and which one is the length when you do your measuring so you don't make a mistake and give us the wrong measurements.

Measuring for Inside Mount

• Measure the inside frame width where the brackets for the shade will be installed. The factory will deduct 1/8" for installation room.

• For inside mounts it is extremely important that your measurements are accurate to within 1/8". If your measurement is between two 1/8" always round down to the nearest 1/8".

• When measuring the height, be sure to measure in three different places, the left, right and center of the window. Use the longest of the three measurements.

• For a flush inside mount, where the shade is completely recessed, you will need to make sure that you have the correct depth measurement. The depth needed will vary depending on the size of your shade. (Please see below)

Shade width up to 78" will need a depth of 2 3/8"

Shade width from 78" - 110" will need a depth of 2 7/8"

Shade width larger than 110" will need a depth of 3 7/8"

Measuring for Outside Mount

•  First you will want to measure the exact distance between the outermost points where the shade will be installed at the top of the window. We recommend having the tips of the shade overlap the window by at least 1 1/2" per side. (See diagram above) Please Note: The factory makes no deductions for outside mounts.

•  Second measure from the top of your window where you want your shade installed down to where you want your shade to come down to. Measure the left, right and center of the window, use the longest of the three measurements for the length.

How to Install your Solar Shade

(These Instructions will also come with your shade)

1. MOUNT THE BRACKETS.

Mark the location of brackets (Outside bracket width = shade width). Make sure the clutch and end plug brackets are on appropriate sides. Mount brackets to wall or ceiling with #10 pan head screws (not provided).

2. INSTALL THE SHADE.

a. Push the clutch straight onto the blade of its bracket. The clutch should be installed so the chain hangs straight down.
b. Lower the lug of the end plug onto the "V" of its bracket. The roller should fit in the brackets securely, with just a little play. Rotate the riveted retainer portion to lock the lug in position.

3. USE THE CONTROL CHAIN TO OPERATE THE SHADE.

Pulling GENTLY on the chain in one direction raises the shade; pulling it in the other direction lowers it. On shades where the fabric rolls against the window, the front cord does the raising. On shades where the fabric rolls toward the room, the rear cord does the raising.

4. ATTACH STOPS TO BEAD CHAIN.

Attach the metal stop ball or plastic connector to the chain, so that it touches the mouth of the clutch when the shade is in the all-rolled-up position. Lower the shade to your desired height, and attach the appropriate metal stop or plastic connector next to the clutch, this prevents the shade from being lowered beyond that point.

5. INSTALL CHAIN GUIDE TENSION DEVICE.

The Tension Device reduces the hazards of strangulation and entanglement of young children by limiting access to the bead chain. Anchor the Tension Device, that is attached to the shade's bead chain, to the window frame or wall, so that young children cannot pull the cord around their necks.

a. Lower the shade.

b. Position the Tension Device on the window frame or the wall so that the Tension Device and bead chain do not interfere with raising or lowering the shade. Do not twist or cross the bead chain. Position the tension device 1/4" inch higher to allow the stop ball to pass thru the tension device.

c. Hold the Tension Device upright so mounting screw is located below loop, insert and secure the screw through the hole. The mounting screw (not supplied with clear plastic tension device) must be secured into a solid surface or anchor.
