Blackout shades have become very useful in settings where you want a nice bright atmosphere, but with the ability to control that light and darken the room when needed. You will see these beautiful shaded fabrics used in several applications:

As you scroll through this page you will see that having a blackout fabric does not mean that you are limited in creating a relaxing beautiful atmosphere, we have many different fabrics to choose from. Some of the things that you will want to consider when having these installed is to what level do you want to block out the light. If you order a shade as an inside mount, once you deduct the space needed for the brackets and clutch you will have about 1 inch gap on each side. Most windows will have the frame that will protrude more than that, but this will still allow a glow to show through the sides.

One way to obtain more light reduction is to order a shade with an outside mount. If this is done, be sure and order the shade about 2 1/2 inches larger than the opening of your window so that the fabric will completely cover the window. With this method it will still have a slight glow through the sides, but will be very slight.

Another option allows you to have an inside mount with absolute blackout. In this method your shade will come with side channels for the fabric to slide down into, preventing any light from entering the room.
